So you hypothetically have developed a close relationship with a number of your students, certainly not necessary but sometimes the most rewarding and troubling experience of teaching.

Especially when these close relationships mix.

One of your favorite yet most troubled students (J) often talks to you about her problems. Detention center, suspensions, fights, relationship.

Well don’t talk to your boyfriend anymore. You can't be with somebody who treats you like that.

Thirty minutes later three is in my classroom for 6^th pd.

Man I been fuckin her, and her boyfriend found out, I guess got mad.

First period on your first day of school. Got on your new pants, tie, dress shoes and feeling ready to save the world. Twenty minutes into class going over your syllabus (by the way your class probably has about 30-35 young spritely kids ready to learn). This class just happens to have ONE white kid sitting on the front row.

Nick (one white kid) will you please read the materials section on the syllabus for me?". He replies "no". Confused you say "what". Nick gets angry "fuck you bitch". You walk to the door to kick him out, before you can get there Nick has gotten up and ran into and kicked the overhead. You open the door and turn around. Nick storms out screaming "fuck this fucking class, I hate this place, I hate you". The whole class erupts with laughter. What do you do?
